Position Summary for the Clinical Operations Diplomat

The Clinical Operations Diplomat, CRNA will work in conjunction with the following team members:  Chief Operations Officer, Chief Medical Officer, VP Clinical Operations, Regional Medical Directors, Regional Practice Administrator, Director of Quality, and local leadership (Facility Medical Director and/or Chief CRNA, On-site Administrator) to provide facility management and clinical services for Somnia, Inc. and affiliates anesthesia facility contracts.

 

Purpose of the Clinical Operations Diplomat

Responsible for the delivery of clinical services to assigned contracts as well as leadership and technical clinical training services. 

 

Position Description for the Clinical Operations Diplomat

Under direction of the COO, the Clinical Operations Diplomat assumes leadership and clinical responsibility for the CRNA care team operations at accounts throughout our national client base. Serves as onsite clinical member participating in call, enhanced clinical training and daily clinical operations.

The Clinical Operations Diplomat’s will be involved in scheduling, daily staffing, and flexing staffing to match OR volume. Assisting with care team development, recruitment and supporting the Clinical Operations team goals and objectives. This position collaborates with, and evaluates all assigned shift Associates according to hospital, anesthesia and unit philosophy and objectives. Utilizes and acquires knowledge of current and best practices in the specified clinical and management areas of anesthesia practice. This position is essential as it also provides ongoing clinical support to facilities that are starting up or in need of clinical staff or leadership. 

Responsibilities of the Clinical Operations Diplomat

  • Provide clinical anesthesia in facilities requiring additional staff to meet contracted points-of-service. It is expected this position will provide clinical services on average of five (5) days per week. Scheduling will be based on the needs of the facilities. 
  • Cross-credential at facilities across regions, where deemed necessary by senior clinical leadership, to provide clinical anesthesia coverage as part of Somnia’ s growth strategy and contract maintenance process.
  • Ensure a “systems” approach for the clinical care environment
    • Pre-op anesthesia patient information, acquisition, and evaluation
    • Postoperative care
    • Anesthesia discharge standards and instructions
    • Manage incidents or complications
    • Communicate with on-call Anesthesia clinicians
  • Support local and national leadership with managing internal CRNA-related issues
  • Provide direct anesthesia services to Center patients as assigned throughout national client base
  • Travel to sites in need of critical staffing
  • Willing and able to holds multiple state licenses and credential at facilities as needed
  • Works with sites to develop an equitable anesthesia coverage/late call schedule
  • Serve as a mentor to all staff for clinical technical training, as needed. 
  • Provides action plans for underperforming sites. 
  • Partner with recruitment to build the Somnia brand and foster referral program.
  • Conduct clinical evaluations for prospective candidates within 48 hours when requested  
  • Provide anesthesia services at other sites as needed and assigned throughout national network.
  • Serves as interface between anesthesia department and Corporate.  
  • Participate in business development initiatives.
  • Keep abreast of market trends and provide intel to necessary departments.
  • Partner with HR, Clinical Affairs and Recruitment to develop a national new hire “buddy plan” for all clinicians joining the Somnia network. This plan will enable these Diplomates to partner with new hires for mentorship, development and training on an as needed basis. 

Qualifications/Education Requirements of the Clinical Operations Diplomat

  1. Holds current state licensure as a registered nurse in the state(s) of practice and comply with the applicable state statutory or regulatory requirements of the State Board of Nurse Examiners.  
  2. Graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or its predecessor.
  3. Holds active license as an Advanced Practice Nurse Anesthetist (if applicable) in the                            state of practice
  4. Insurable by an appropriate medical malpractice insurer for the limits required by the                           group, institution, or state.
  5. Complies with one of the following requirements regarding certification eligibility, initial               certification, or recertification:
  1. Is currently certified by the Council of Certification of Nurse Anesthetist or its predecessor.
  2. Is currently recertified by the Council of Certification of Nurse Anesthetist or its predecessor.

 

Knowledge/Aptitude of the Clinical Operations Diplomat

  1. Demonstrates current competency in those clinical responsibilities for which the candidate applies.
  2. Experience in management, along with effective leadership abilities, as determined and at the sole discretion of the Chief Operating Officer.
  1. Mentally and physically able to provide safe anesthetic care.
  2. Knowledge of anesthesia principles, techniques and procedures for patient care and the ability to apply that knowledge to the clinical care of the patient.            
  3. Adhere to the American Association of Nurse Anesthetist Standards of Practice.
  4. Maintain a practice current with CDC, OSHA, JCAHO, and HIPPA standards in regards patient care and as directed at each assigned medical facility.
  5. Advanced knowledge of physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology and the ability to apply this knowledge on a case-to-case basis. 
  6. Professionalism and communication skills and the willingness to work as a team.
  7. Possess the ability to multi-task, delegate projects when appropriate and ensure deadlines/timelines are met. 
  8. Compassion in dealing with others.
  9. Work Ethic: considerate of others when coordinating time off, work arrival and departure.
  10. Ability to assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands.

 

 

Physical Requirements of the Clinical Operations Diplomat

The employee must be able to perform fine manipulation, simple grasping, firm grasping and have a steady hand to intubate patients and perform medical non-surgical procedures, such as IV insertion, intubation, induction of anesthesia, emergence of general anesthesia, placement of arterial and central venous access lines, administer anesthetics and various types of anesthetic blocks, maintain fluid and electrolyte balance, administer epidurals and secure airways in routine and emergency situations.

 

Mental Requirements

Performance Evaluation

This job description will be used as the basis for the Clinical Operations Diplomate Performance Evaluation in the practice setting.  The appraisal system will be used to reward the CRNAs that excel in the practice and administrative setting and to offer comments to help improve deficient areas of practice or capabilities of the individual.  Employees that consistently fail to improve in deficient areas after a given period will be counseled, possibly suspended, or even terminated if unable to perform the duties of the job description.
