Overview

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Coordinator (RN) to spearhead the launch of our new medical service line focused on Conscious Sedation. The Coordinator, will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing protocols, training programs, and ensuring the seamless integration of a formal conscious sedation program [“CSP”] into the span of healthcare services delivered at our affiliated facilities. This position requires a dynamic individual with strong leadership skills, clinical expertise, expertise with new service rollouts, and a passion for elevating patient care experiences. The Coordinator will start by launching the CSP at a facility or system located in the Memphis area, with an eye on future launches at other facilities in different geographic areas once proof of concept is demonstrated.

Responsibilities

  • Program Development
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including physicians, administrators, and nursing staff, to design and develop a CSP where RN, NPMD or PAs are the primary clinical provider. 
    • Establish protocols, policies, and procedures to ensure the safe and effective triaging of patients, delivery of conscious sedation services, and their pre and post sedation care.  
    • Create patient education materials, consent forms, medical records, and order sets.  
    • Develop, implement, and maintain an RN, NP, and PA [“Provider” or “Providers”] education/training program. 
  • Training and Education 
    • Develop and conduct comprehensive training programs for Providers involved in conscious sedation, ensuring adherence to established best practices, standards and guidelines surrounding pre-, intra-, and post- sedation activities.  
    •  Provide ongoing education to nursing staff (other than conscious sedation providers) and proceduralists on the latest advancements, best practices, and safety measures related to conscious sedation. 
  • Quality Assurance-in collaboration with Facility and Company Quality Department, 
    • Develop, implement, and maintain a conscious sedation quality management program including satisfaction, quality and outcome measures, data capture/collection systems, analytical models, and reports.  
    • Ensure the multidisciplinary facility-specific Conscious Sedation receives reports and they are monitored and used to evaluate the performance of the Conscious Sedation Program, and Providers who comprise it.  
    • Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., CMS Conditions of Participation, Scope of Nursing Practice, etc.), accreditation standards ((Joint Commission) and internal standards (By-Laws sections relevant to matter related to conscious sedation). 
    • Ensure physical plant, monitors, supplies and staffing meets or exceeds clinical requirements.  
    • Ensure adverse events are reported to the proper facility department or person and, if indicated the appropriate the proper regulatory or oversight body.  
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders:
    • Establish and lead a multispecialty and multidisciplinary Conscious Sedation Committee, including agenda development and capturing of minutes as well as sharing these two deliverables with Facility stakeholders.  
    • Work closely with physicians, proceduralists, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate collaboration and effective communication within the interdisciplinary team involved in the procedural episode of care with respect to sedation.  
    • Work very closely with PAT and Perioperative Medicine to develop triage protocols.  
    • Engage in regular meetings with stakeholders to discuss program progress, address challenges, and optimize patient care. 
  • Patient Advocacy:
    • Advocate for patient-centered care and ensure that the Conscious Sedation program meets or exceeds patient expectations for safety, comfort, and satisfaction. 
    • Address patient concerns and feedback, implementing improvements as needed. 
    • Report and serious patient complaints to appropriate internal and external   
  •  Resource Management:
    • Coordinate the allocation of resources, including staffing, equipment, and supplies, to support the successful implementation of the program. 
    • Collaborate with the administrative team to manage budgetary considerations related to the RN Conscious Sedation program. 
       
  • Revenue management
    • Implement, manage, maintain and audit a charge capture, submission process
    • Review and reconcile reports and present to appropriate stakeholders.
    • Detect, investigate, and remediate any process, or part therein, with respect to revenue cycle management,  
  •  Documentation and Reporting:
    • Establish robust documentation processes for the RN Conscious Sedation program, ensuring accurate and timely record-keeping. 
    • Generate regular reports on program metrics, outcomes, and areas for improvement. 

Qualifications

  • Current nursing license (RN, NP, PA, MD) 
  • CSRN Required
  • Willingness to go through facility credentialing process for Memphis facilities (phase I) and other facilities (Phase II)    
  • Willingness to be based in Memphis (Phase I) and travel elsewhere >50% (Phase II) 
  • Experience and expertise leading and coordinating launch of a new hospital service lines  
  • Proven experience in conscious sedation  
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). 
  • Proven educator and trainer  
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic healthcare environment and lead change initiatives. 
  • Ability to travel to locations for implementations and periodic visits to sites to ensure compliance.
