Coding Manager Overview

Position Summary:

The Medical Coding Manager is responsible for overseeing the medical coding operations and managing a team of coding professionals. This role involves ensuring accurate coding of medical records, optimizing coding processes, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical coding, leadership skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and efficiency.

Coding Manager Responsibilitites

• Manage and mentor a team of medical coders, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure high productivity and accuracy.
• Oversee the coding of diagnoses, procedures, and services using ICD-10, CPT, and ASA Crosswalk coding systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
• Ensure all coding practices comply with legal and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA and CMS guidelines.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve coding processes, enhance efficiency, and reduce errors.
• Coordinate with Audit team a process to communicate internal audit findings to assess coding accuracy and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Work closely with RCM Director of Revenue Integrity and Education, billing departments, and compliance officers to address coding-related issues and ensure accurate reimbursement.
• Generate and analyze reports on coding performance, trends, and areas for improvement.
• Stay updated on coding changes and industry trends and provide ongoing education and training to coding team.
• Foster a collaborative and performance-driven team culture.
• Examine departmental processes, policies and procedures, and workflows for areas of opportunity and implement changes as necessary

Coding Manager Qualifications

• Well-rounded in Revenue Cycle Management and Healthcare Administration, with strong conceptual and analytical skills.
• Extensive knowledge of medical billing software, electronic medical records, coding software and regulatory requirements.
• Effective communication, interpersonal, leadership, and conflict resolution skills.
• 3 Years of Management/Supervisory experience required.
• Must have and maintain a CPC, and a minimum of 1 additional coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA, preferably CANPC.
• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience in Anesthesia coding and regulatory guidelines preferred
