Position Summary:

The Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is responsible for accurately coding medical procedures and diagnoses using the appropriate coding systems. The coder plays a critical role in ensuring that healthcare providers are reimbursed correctly and that patient records are maintained with precision. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Responsibilities

  • Accurately assign codes to diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10, CPT, and ASA Crosswalk
  • Analyze and review medical records to ensure accurate and complete documentation for coding purposes
  • Ensure coding practices comply with all relevant regulations and guidelines, including HIPAA and CMS regulations
  • Collaborate with healthcare leadership and staff to clarify coding and documentation requirements
  • Stay updated on coding changes and industry trends, and participate in ongoing education and training programs
  • Enter coded information into electronic health record (EHR) systems with precision and attention to detail

Qualifications

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Qualifications

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification from AAPC or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and ASA Crosswalk.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience within Anesthesia coding preferred.
  • One additional coding certification (CANPC), or must obtain within 1 year upon employment preferred.
