Overview

The AR Billing Specialist will be responsible for managing the healthcare organization's billing and accounts receivable processes. This role ensures timely submission of medical claims to insurance companies, works on follow-ups, resolves denials, and ensures accurate payment posting. The AR Billing Specialist has strong knowledge of medical billing practices, insurance guidelines, and excellent analytical skills to ensure that accounts are collected promptly and efficiently. This position will involve working with entities in the state of California and requires that candidates both live in and have experience working with entities in the state of California.

Responsibilities

  • Submit accurate and timely medical claims to insurance companies, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurers.
  • Follow up on unpaid or underpaid claims to ensure the timely collection of outstanding balances.
  • Identify and resolve claim denials and rejections, including researching issues and resubmitting claims as needed.
  • Review payments to patient accounts and reconcile discrepancies between payments received and allowed amounts.
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility for services provided.
  • Communicate with insurance companies and Practice Administrators to resolve billing issues.
  • Generate and analyze accounts receivable reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Stay updated with changes in medical billing regulations and insurance requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required, with at least 2 years’ experience within accounts receivable.
  • Must be located in the state of California and have experience providing AR billing support in California.
  • Experience with accounts receivable management and collections processes in a healthcare environment preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Medical Billing Specialist or in a similar role, with a focus on accounts receivable.
  • Experience working with multiple IPAs preferred.
  • Experience within Anesthesia AR preferred.

Preferred Skills/Knowledge:

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and compliance standards.
  • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance guidelines.
