Position Summary The Clinical Operations Diplomat will work in conjunction with the following team members:  Chief Operations Officer, Chief Medical Officer, VP Clinical Operations, Regional Medical Directors, Regional Practice Administrator, Director of Quality, and local leadership (Facility Medical Director and/or Chief CRNA, On-site Administrator) to provide facility management and clinical services for Somnia, Inc. and affiliates anesthesia facility contracts.   Purpose Responsible for the delivery of clinical services to assigned contracts as well as leadership and technical clinical training services.    Position Description Under direction of the COO, the Clinical Operations Diplomat assumes leadership and clinical responsibility for the CRNA care team operations at accounts throughout our national client base. Serves as onsite clinical member participating in call, enhanced clinical training and daily clinical operations. The Clinical Operations Diplomat’s will be involved in scheduling, daily staffing, and flexing staffing to match OR volume. Assisting with care team development, recruitment and supporting the Clinical Operations team goals and objectives. This position collaborates with, and evaluates all assigned shift Associates according to hospital, anesthesia and unit philosophy and objectives. Utilizes and acquires knowledge of current and best practices in the specified clinical and management areas of anesthesia practice. This position is essential as it also provides ongoing clinical support to facilities that are starting up or in need of clinical staff or leadership.

Sets forth and assures compliance with policies relating to CRNA Employee Handbook and the Department of Anesthesiology Policy and Procedure manual. Coordinates in-services, allocates and assigns duties to staff CRNAs. Monitors quality measures throughout the department. Affirmatively works with Somnia, CRNA’s and anesthesiologists to evolve the culture to one that embraces safety, respect, collaboration and emotional maturity. Monitors the activities of all operating components to ensure the Group successfully meets its objectives. Other duties as assigned.   Must be a strong role model and value team collaboration. The chief is responsible for keeping morale at high level by encouraging teammates, providing positive feedback, creating a fair and equitable work environment and ensuring policy and procedures are fairly applied. Direct Report:   - VP Clinical Operations - Medical Director, Department of Anesthesiology - Dotted line report--Chief Operations Officer (COO) Essential Duties: Continuous monitoring of effective and efficient patient care initiatives by CRNAs, including but not limited to, chart audits, visual audits, scanning of medications, syringe labeling, documentation as part of our on-site quality program. Helps prepare and meet with CRNAs for OPPEs.   Reviews, develops and maintains Departmental Policy and Procedure manual.   Administers anesthesia under the designated coverage model. Selects, obtains and/or administers the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic; to maintain the patient’s physiologic homeostasis and to correct abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery. Requests appropriate consultation for abnormal patients’ responses to anesthesia or to any adjunctive medication or other form of therapy.   Ensures CRNAs are trained in service lines and follows protocols and hospital/department tools to improve individual and team performance employing best practices and ensuring quality and safety.   Operations Duties:   Liaison for CRNAs with anesthesiologists and Somnia administration as well as OR and hospital leadership.   Performs CE evaluations for potential new hires, assessments, recommends, screens and interviews new CRNA hires within 72 hours of request. Offers insight into hiring and staffing strategy.   Coordinates and develops on-boarding process along with Administrator, for all new CRNA hires and ensures record keeping process is in place for documentation of training and orientation processes for all new hires. Develops and administers new employee orientation/competency programs for CRNAs and ensures new CRNA hires are enlisted in CRNA email distribution lists and Somnia CRNA initiatives.     Empowers and assists CRNA team in interdepartmental leadership roles such as board running, quality monitoring and other areas to strengthen the anesthesia team and leadership within the hospital   Works with on-site Administrator to ensure all personnel files are complete and maintained on site. Ensures anesthesia office requirements are maintained, such as chart signatures, pharmacy audits, etc.   Works collaboratively Facility Medical Staff office, Somnia credentialing and on-site Administrator to expedite credentialing process when needed for all new hires and annual reinstatement of privileges for current CRNA staff. Ensures all CRNA licensure renewal.   Coordinates with Somnia locum coordinator, on-site Administrator and locum tenens agencies to ensure necessary licensure, credentialing and provider enrollment numbers are obtained.   Schedules/oversees scheduling of CRNA daily work assignments. Ensures the CRNA staff schedule is published at least 30 days in advance unless otherwise agreed upon by VP Clinical Operations or Medical Director.   Collaborates with on-site Administrator, OR Manager and Medical Director to ensure adequate staffing at all anesthetizing locations. Manages day to day operations as assigned which may include managing the board.   Works with interdepartmental committees to communicate departmental issues, as well as Facility requests to department and represents/supports colleagues as indicated.   Schedules and conducts staff meetings with CRNAs to foster team communication, address staff concerns, inform staff of changes in practice/employment policy and procedures. Resolves problem areas that are affecting operating efficiency.   Administers anesthesia under the designated coverage model. Selects, obtains and/or administers the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic; to maintain the patient’s physiologic homeostasis and to correct abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery. Requests appropriate consultation for abnormal patients’ responses to anesthesia or to any adjunctive medication or other form of therapy.   Participates in operation and planning projects as requested.   Budget/Financial Duties:   Evaluates opportunities for improvements within the department and offers suggestions to implement positive change.   Participates in monthly Hospital Account Reviews (HARs) and ensures Department stays within established personnel expense budget.   Ensures Department maintains adequate coverage models and ensures Department is complying with established proforma. If there is a need to deviate, this must be communicated to Medical Director and VP of Clinical Operations for review and collaboration.   Quality Duties:   Coordinates, researches, implements and ensures compliance with regulatory agencies relating to all human resources activities concerning CRNAs with support of VP Ops, Administrator and Director of Quality.   Continuous monitoring of effective and efficient patient care initiatives by CRNAs, including but not limited to, chart audits, visual audits, syringe labeling, documentation. Chief oversees and/or performs clinician rounding on a quarterly basis and submits to Director of Quality by the 15th day following the end of the quarter and shares with appropriate individuals (VP Ops, MD Director, COO, etc.).   Works with Administrator to ensure CRNA compliance with Outcome Form completion is greater than 95% and all adverse events are reported into the Quality Program.   Establishes proactive training programs for providers based on outcomes reporting. Compliance Duties: Responsible for narcotic control, regulatory drug compliance, safety, radiation safety, infection control, Joint Commission, MACRA/MIPS reporting and OSHA compliance with support of Administrator, VP Ops and Medical Director.   With the support of Somnia, stays up to date with anesthesia regulatory requirements, state/national meetings and generates in-service for Department of the latest trends and best practice recommendations suitable for Department and other Somnia sites. Ensures all forms used at site are compliant with Joint Commission, Medicare Conditions of Participation and billing.   Performs random documentation audits on provider charts to ensure compliant documentation. Administrative Duties:   Actively assists with CRNA benefit questions and collaborates with benefit plan administrators regarding problem resolution.   Provides suggestions for recruitment and retention and marketing strategies for CRNA recruitment and hiring in collaboration with Somnia Marketing & Recruitment Departments and implements programs.   Participates in operation and planning projects as requested.   Works with interdepartmental committees to communicate departmental issues, as well as to communicate Facility requests to department. Continues to improve interdepartmental relations by seeking out learning opportunities and offering educational lectures pertaining to anesthesia, as requested by Facility.   Schedules and conducts staff meetings with CRNAs to inform staff of changes in practice/employment policy and procedures. Resolves problem areas that are affecting operating efficiency.   Qualifications: - Graduation from a recognized University with a Master of Science Degree in Anesthesia or Nursing - Skilled clinical CRNA with flexible teamwork mentality - Two or more years of clinical anesthesia experience preferred - Possess leadership skills necessary to deal effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare - Ability to motivate CRNA - Possess ability to think clearly and make analytical decisions in initiating departmental or employee policy - Must have solid decision-making ability and ability to delegate/follow up - Possess a working knowledge of computer applications and Anesthesia Information Management Systems. TidalHealth is a multispecialty surgery center affiliated with Peninsula Regional Medical Center.   Summary - Per diem CRNA - TidalHealth https://www.tidalhealth.org/our-locations/tidalhealth-surgery-center | MapQuest - Case mix includes T&A, cataracts, face/body cosmetics, uterine surgery, ENT. Pediatric experience is a comfort and a must (healthy peds for ENT cases). - 2 Rooms. 7 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, no weekends/call. - Model is 1 MD 5 days a week and 1 CRNA 3 days a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday). Approximately 8-10 cases per day. - Facility will handle and collaborate with anesthesia team input is required. MDs do own cases and surgeon supervision for the CRNAs.
